Phoenix College (PC) welcomed its first students as one of the first institutions of higher education in Maricopa County on September 13, 1920. PC's founders envisioned the College as a place of inclusion as a non-segregated institution. In 1962, the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) was established, with PC as the flagship institution. MCCCD is now one of the largest community college districts in the nation.

Job Summary


 

This position as a Program Director and residential faculty member will start in August 2024. Responsible for developing and teaching various classes within the HIM prefix to a diverse student population. Instructional areas may include, Data Collection/Analytics, Healthcare Statistics, Health Data Management and other areas as needed. Specific knowledge of current application software and Learning Management System packages using a PC platform.

This position will have the additional responsibilities of a Program Director and will schedule classes, assist adjuncts, find effective ways to grow the HIM/HIT programs and keep PC in compliance with the accrediting body CAHIIM.

Essential Functions


 

Supervise and instruct students in a classroom or computer lab setting using a variety of presentation techniques emphasizing technology


Complete the full responsibilities of a Program Director


Develop course syllabi, outlines, and other course materials for a variety of course preparations


Evaluate knowledge of subject matter including grading and monitoring of student’s scholastic records


Develop and enhance knowledge of the subject matter taught by attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions. Maintain office hours to assist and advise students


Participate in department, campus, and district committee work and activities

Minimum Qualifications


 

Five (5) years of occupational experience in the field of Health Information Management

OR

Three (3) years of occupational experience in the field of Health Information Management as well as a bachelor’s degree in any field.

Desired Qualifications


 

1. Hold a bachelor’s degree in the assigned teaching area and a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

 


2. Three (3) or more years within the last five (5) years of experience in health information management or related field

 


3. Experience teaching within an educational or health care setting within the last ten (10) years

 


4. Application of innovative instructional techniques including classroom technology and nontraditional instruction (online, video)

 


5. Experience with health information management software programs (i.e., encoder, electronic health record)

Special Working Conditions

 
  • May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor
  • May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.
  • Work Schedule Varies, will be required to work evenings and weekends
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
  • Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters.
  • May require lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving.
