Work Schedule
Work schedule will be dependent upon the availability and experience of the student, their class schedule and the department need.

Student will be scheduled between 8 - 19.5 hours per week.

Job Summary
Scottsdale Community College is hiring a s student laboratory assistant for the Chemistry department.

Must be a Scottsdale Community College student registered for 6 or more credit hours and received financial aid eligibility.

This position will assist with lab preparation, washing laboratory glassware, general cleaning, office and clerical duties, maintenance, and provide customer service to students, staff, faculty and community members through a service window.

This position offers a variety of experiences that are worth mentioning on a resume as genuine work experiences. These include:

  • Experience in chemical handling and reagent preparation and safety protocols
  • Experience with scientific equipment such as pH meters, data loggers and other equipment used in the analysis of chemical compounds
  • Experience in a laboratory setting (enhancing skills in the assembly, use and maintenance of laboratory equipment)
  • Reinforcement and practice of concepts learned in your chemistry and other science courses
  • Effective communication and problem solving skills.
  • General laboratory safety training

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a Scottsdale Community College student registered for 6 or more credit hours and received financial aid eligibility.

Desired Qualifications
All majors are welcome to apply.
Preference is given to Physical and Biological science majors and students with prior experience as a laboratory assistant.

  • Knowledge and experience with computer software such as current Microsoft Office Products, internet browsers and email
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to interact with different populations of people and provide superior customer service to our staff, students, faculty and community members
