As part of the funded program by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry University Collaborative Research Center (IUCRC), the Post-Doctoral Associate will perform scientific and applied research activities related to the integration of composites materials into infrastructure applications under the supervision of Dr. Antonio Nanni. Moreover, the Post-Doctoral Associate will promote institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community. The supervising faculty will be responsible for providing ongoing feedback and a formal assessment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

Conduct research on specific areas of study as assigned.

Prepare research reports and technical papers for publishing.

Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

Maintain substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

Develop advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Ph.D. in civil or structural engineering will be considered.

Certification and Licensing:

Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is preferred, but not required.

Experience:

Prior experience in field testing and civil engineering design of concrete structures is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge in ACI 318 and ACI 440.
  • Background in structural analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Department Specific Functions

The Faculty of Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE) Department is committed to outstanding international research and education in the field of civil engineering, applied material sciences, innovation and technology in the built environment. Our research feeds into our educational programs and covers from fundamental engineering research, to applied knowledge gaps, and include the engineering grand challenges such as climate change, energy, resource depletion, urbanization, sustainability and resilience. Research is conducted  in close cooperation with a wide range of other university research institutions.

Within CAE, the Center for Integration of Composites into Infrastructure (CICI) is funded program by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry University Collaborative Research Center (IUCRC). The IUCRC program generates breakthrough research by enabling close and sustained engagement between industry innovators, world-class academic teams and government agencies. To achieve the goals of the program, CICI supports its researchers and scientists in integrating fundamental and applied sciences in their research practice.

The candidate will work in bridging existing fundamental and applied knowledge gaps for the implementation of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and cementitious systems (FRCM) in the concrete infrastructure, ranging from field implementation, detection, monitoring, and evaluating root cause and failure analysis of materials, systems and structures.
