Description

Georgetown University Center for Global Health Science and Security (GHSS) and the Pandemic Prevention Institute  invites applications for a postdoctoral academic fellowship in Global Health Security Governance to start in October 2022. The fellow will be expected to work with the GHSS and PPI research teams to support ongoing research efforts in global health security governance, conduct original research, and contribute to policy recommendations for global leaders.  Fellows will be expected to contribute to the development of a new database in global governance of disease and initiate research associated with the database.  Research areas could include implementation of the International Health Regulations, jurisdictional authorities for public health, national regulations for sharing genetic sequence data, or national policies governing wild life trade.

Additionally, fellows will be expected to devote a portion of their time to their own research projects.  Projects with potential epidemic intelligence applications and global ramifications, will be given priority.

Fellows will be expected to present ongoing research at GHSS seminars and will be encouraged to engage in some lecturing. 

The Postdoctoral Fellowship will be awarded from October 2022 until June 2024, although continuation past September 2023 is contingent upon successful progress in year one. In accepting the appointment, the fellow is expected to be in residence in Washington, DC, with an office at the Pandemic Prevention Institute, and space at Georgetown University, except for absences agreed upon with mentor(s). Mentor for this position include Drs. Rebecca Katz, Alexandra Phelan and Ana Bento.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship is $60,000 annually with up to $5,000 available towards research expenses and professional development. 

Application Procedure – All proposal materials must be submitted through Interfolio. The proposal is not to exceed 6 pages in length (12pt font, double spaced) and must include the following:

  • Title of Proposed Independent WorkAbstract (200 words), 
  • Proposed Research:  be sure to provide a description of the research, including explicit question/hypothesis you plan to undertake including the methodology, the importance of the work, both in relation to the broader discipline and to your own scholarly goals.
