Description of Position:

The School of Molecular Biosciences at Washington State University invites applications for a 12-month (1 FTE) Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Duttke Lab. This appointment begins October 1, 2022 with annual renewability.

Summary of Duties:

The goal of our young laboratory at WSU Pullman is to advance our knowledge of gene regulatory programs on the level of transcription initiation and to refine technologies to precisely capture active gene regulatory networks in complex and clinical samples such as blood from infectious disease patients. These advances are critical to better understand the molecular basis underlying differential disease outcomes (pathogenesis), especially related to life-threatening infectious diseases, as well as predicting the efficacy of distinct treatments based on profiling the current (“nascent”) gene regulatory state of patients (prognostics). We hope our research will lead to further early disease detection and personalized treatment approaches for humans and animals. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, a successful candidate thrives towards independence, will take ownership, has a board interest in the field of gene regulation, develop her or his own project, is willing to train, mentor and supervise scientist and is driven by curiosity. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and enjoy a kind collaborative atmosphere with the lab and at WSU Pullman.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform next generation sequencing data analysis and/or assays.

  • Design and carry out experiments with an emphasis DNA sequencing.

  • Prepare and present research through oral presentation and publication.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Genomics, Computational Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology or related.

  • Experience and interest in bioinformatics and NGS data analysis.

  • The ability to problem-solve and learn new experimental techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:?

  • Knowledge in gene regulation on the level of transcription.

  • Basic knowledge of Python and other languages.
