EMPLOYMENT COORDINATOR

Department: Programs

Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time

Location: Seattle, WA.

**Due to COVID-19 this role is currently working primarily remotely. Once FareStart’s office fully reopens, this role will have regular onsite responsibilities in downtown Seattle. **

FareStart is a nonprofit organization in Seattle, Washington that transforms lives, disrupts poverty, and nourishes communities through food, life skills, and job training. We help people overcome employment barriers by teaching them work and life skills they need to succeed in the food-based jobs — and in life.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided millions of meals to organizations across the Seattle area that serve youth, adults, and families who are low-income or experiencing food insecurity.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As an Employment Coordinator, you will use a person-centered approach to support students across youth and adult programs as they work toward achieving their self-identified goals for employment. Using a trauma-informed approach, you will train students in building the skills they need to be successful in gaining and maintaining employment through virtual and in-person classroom instruction.

This role builds relationships with employers across multiple sectors. You will work closely with our case managers to support students in identifying employment pathways that will help them reach their immediate and potentially long-term goals for employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides instruction to students through virtual and on-site classroom
  • Teach job preparedness workshops including resume, cover letter, interview strategies and practice, targeted job search and more in both group and individual settings
  • Provide students coaching and feedback to support them in their skill development and achieving their goals
  • Build relationships with employers across multiple sectors for employment opportunities and to be guest speakers
  • Work with volunteer engagement manager to secure volunteers to support with job preparedness workshops and mock interviews
  • Provide employment references to employers
  • Make recommendations for, and support the development of adjustments to the new and existing curriculum to increase student skill-building
  • Build trusting, positive, communicative relationships with case managers and trainers to support students in achieving their employment goals
  • Ensures timely and accurate entry of student data and completion of paperwork to meet all organizational and funder requirements
  • Attend Workforce Development trainings and workshops
  • Actively participate in meetings for student support, program development, organizational information, training, etc.
  • Supports in other classes outside job preparedness as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+, and gender backgrounds.
  • Experience in job preparedness instruction and employment placement
  • Possess a strong understanding of overarching workplace skills that support successful employment
  • Experience building relationships with employers in a variety of sectors
  • Ability to role model appropriate workplace behaviors and boundaries to our students
  • Must be able to collaborate with partners across the organization
  • Possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse audiences racially, ethnically, socioeconomically, LGBTQIA+, and gender diverse communities
  • Ability to hold students to a high level of personal responsibility and accountability using trauma-informed practices
  • Must be able to provide a positive environment and manage behaviors that can disrupt learning
  • Knowledge of, and experience using a variety of teaching methods
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to change; emotionally able to adjust in a positive manner
  • Possess the ability to remain calm and supportive during high-stress situations
  • Must be able to build and foster positive and collaborative relationships across the organization
  • Experience in employment and/or job training program
  • Intellectually curious learner willing to take in new information and perspectives to inform and adapt work
  • Experience with client database entry & Microsoft Office Suite
