Qualifications

Associate degree in finance, accounting, public administration, business administration, organizational management, computer science, counseling or a related field from an accredited educational organization required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of one year of federal and state financial aid funding programs and Title IV financial aid regulations. Four years of work experience in customer service. Three years or more of work experience in higher education financial aid, preferred. Effectively use technology and computer software programs with proficiency in Microsoft applications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills needed with the ability to make small group presentations as well as remarkable skill in interacting with students on a one-on-one basis.

Examples of Work

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Administer financial aid, scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment programs that support student recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinate the tracking of student’s academic status to ensure good academic standards are maintained and appropriate action is taken to place students on financial aid probation or termination as necessary.
  • Provide input to assist in decisions related to Financial Aid grievances and appeals.
  • Provide orientation, consultation and technical expertise to potential students, current students, student parents/guardians, administrators, faculty, staff, the public and pertinent others concerning Financial Aid operations, award options and activities.
  • Provide financial aid educational workshops and counseling to proactively mitigate the lack of understanding of current financial aid regulations.
  • Provide advice to students in partnership with Academic Advisors, to ensure collaboration based on student programs.
  • Advise incoming, continuing, mid reentry students on the availability of Title IV funds und resources to cover their tuition and living costs.
  • Conduct group presentations, (typically held after regular office hours) trainings and community outreach events to aid students with the knowledge of completing their FAFSA/financial aid training.
  • Assign the appropriate budget to a student and package the student (award their aid):
  • complete packaging in Banner for enrolled students which includes offering available financial aid to meet the student's needs and completing all necessary documentation.
  • Review all ISIRs for enrollments for accuracy and resolve any issues (verification, C-code)
  • Work with students to obtain the documentation necessary to process aid for students selected for verification.
  • Review/process all required documents collected to ensure accuracy as mandated by the Department of Education.
  • Identify and resolve conflicting information between financial aid documents and other student files within the college.
  • Review weekly reports to ensure all students' financial aid has been processed.
  • Provide advising to students to ensure an understanding of financial aid.
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate departments to ensure effective processing of federal student aid.
  • Ensure that all students have been packaged with federal aid, or alternative funding.
  • Monitor PLUS denials and awards unsubsidized loans; revise award notifications, notifies students via email, text (if applicable) and/or telephone.
  • Complete default management processing and reporting.
  • Assist student questions on completion of Direct Loan Exit Counseling.
  • Effectively communicates with Finance to ensure the aid funds are paid to students' accounts in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate files and paperwork; complete and resolve Verification and C-Code requirements.
  • Administer the TOPS program to ensure eligible TOPS students are packaged for the correct TOPS award.
  • Work as a liaison between the College, the student, and LOSFA to ensure accurate TOPS awards are posted.
  • Submit billing for TOPS awards to LOSFA and reconciles the billing amount to the EFT amount received by Finance.
  • Participate as a member of the Financial Aid Appeal Committee with responsibility for reviewing financial aid appeals and making decisions to approve or deny appeals based on supporting documentation submitted by students.
  • Maintains current knowledge of BPCC and LCTCS operations and policies, federal and state student financial assistance programs and laws governing such.
  • Regularly attends seminars, special conferences and professional meetings as time and budget permit
  • Regularly reads professional publications, articles, books, etc. to maintain knowledge of operations, policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Establishes procedures for record retention and disposal.
  • Assures all student records for both current and former students at the College comply with local, state, federal and accreditation regulations.
  • Develop and maintain external relationships, including, but not limited to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, lenders, guarantee agencies, financial aid directors and personnel at other institutions, student award/scholarship donors, social service agencies, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the U.S. Department of Education, and the State of Louisiana Board of Regents.
  • Utilize reports as appropriate to job duties.
  • Assist with or perform special projects as assigned.
  • Work assigned/flexible hours necessary to complete duties on a weekly basis and may include extended work hours during peak times.
  • Work hours vary with occasional weekend work and/or evenings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
