Description
The Biology Department at Western Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professorships in VERTEBRATE TERRESTRIAL ECOLOGY beginning Fall 2023. The Biology Department in the College of Science and Engineering has approximately 30 faculty whose expertise spans a broad range of biological disciplines. The department, college, and university are devoted to creating an equitable environment for students and staff and are engaged in the process of addressing institutional racism and other oppressive biases. We especially encourage applications from women, people of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and other candidates from historically excluded backgrounds and underrepresented experiences. The successful applicant will foster an inclusive and student-centered approach to teaching and research and develop a research program appropriate for a primarily undergraduate institution with master’s students. Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Education/training: - PhD in biological sciences or a closely related field, completed at the time of application.? - Postdoctoral experience in biological science or closely related field. Scholarship: -Strong research record in terrestrial vertebrate ecology including field-based research components - Evidence of the ability to establish a funded and sustainable research program in terrestrial vertebrate ecology that involves undergraduate and graduate students.? - Evidence of the ability to recruit, train, and mentor diverse undergraduate and Master’s students engaging in the core aspects of a research program in terrestrial vertebrate ecology - Evidence of strong quantitative, modeling, computational, and/or statistical skills Teaching: - Demonstrated record of and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.? - Evidence of the ability to use student-centered approaches to foster active learning? - Evidence of the ability to teach introductory biology for majors? - Evidence of the ability to teach a 300-level course in ecology for majors - Evidence of the ability to develop and teach advanced courses and labs for Biology majors and graduate students.??? - Evidence of the ability to teach field-based courses - Evidence of the ability to develop and teach upper-division undergraduate courses in vertebrate biology Service: - Evidence of the ability to inclusively advise and support Biology majors with diverse social identities and backgrounds? - Evidence of experience in community building and creating more equitable experiences for students, faculty, and staff? Preferred Qualifications - Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative research.? - Evidence of the ability to teach course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs)? - Evidence of the ability to teach upper-division biostatistics and/or evolutionary biology - Teaching experience using student-centered approaches to foster active learning? - Evidence of experience in community building or support in the sciences. - Evidence of the ability to conduct place-based research????
