Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Alessandra Porcu to conduct research on an NIH-funded project in the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences at University of South Carolina.
The Porcu Lab is interested in studying the role of neurotransmitter plasticity and circadian rhythms in modulating brain functions and behaviors. The Postdoctoral fellow will use a combination of state-of-the-art methodologies from behavior to in vivo calcium imaging to circadian genes analysis in pre-clinical mouse models. Our goal is to understand the mechanism by which neurotransmitter plasticity and circadian rhythms regulate neuronal circuits and brain functions to reveal promising targets for future treatments of mental disorders.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Candidates must have a doctoral level degree (M.D. and/or Ph.D. in Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Molecular/Cellular Biology, Physiology, Molecular Pharmacology, or a related field) by the start date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Expertise in rodents and/or circadian rhythms, protein and histological analyses, molecular biology, microscopy techniques and behavioral analysis. Dedication to basic research with strong analytical and communication skills. Highly motivated and able to work both independently and in a team.
