Mission Asset Fund (MAF) is looking for an Evaluation Manager who wants an opportunity to join an organization that sits at the forefront of economic justice work and leads with innovative and big ideas. As the Evaluation Manager, youll help organize MAFs cross-team analytical work and uplift data-driven insights that spotlight the strengths, barriers, and realities of the low-income and immigrant communities MAF serves.

Reports to: Policy and Communications Manager

The opportunity: The Evaluation Manager will help drive forward insights and learnings that explore the financial lives, strategies, and barriers of low-income and immigrant communities. This person will marry a passion for social justice and equity with a data-driven and human-centered approach. Beyond their own research, the Evaluation Manager will help manage the Evaluation team, tying together the organizations evaluation work and supporting researchers and data analysts with infrastructure, project management, and research guidance.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • You have a proven track record of leading complex projects, managing people, and building new infrastructure and processes.
  • You have experience managing and being part of research projects, with expertise in the full research lifespan: developing and testing hypotheses, conducting literature reviews, developing tools and surveys, and managing data collection, clean up and analysis
  • You bring expertise in statistics and analytical methods (proficiency in R, Salesforce, and Excel), an inquisitive mind, and a passion for problem-solving.
  • Youre an exceptional data translator who can transform wonky insights into clear and concise ideas (and visualizations!) for less technical audiences.
  • You have strong presentation and communication skills and are excited to develop a public presence sharing real-time insights with diverse audiences.
  • You have a passion for social justice and a fundamental belief in the expertise, innovation, and strength of low-income and immigrant communities.
  • You are a strong collaborator who enjoys working with others, has a systems eye, is extremely well-organized, and has excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • You enjoy fast-paced environments, wearing multiple hats, and are able to distill a lot of information into clear insights.
  • Youre a self-starter with the ability to conduct and drive analysis both independently and within a team.
  • You have a bachelors degree in public policy, economics, statistics, data science, quantitative social science, city planning, or a related field; a masters degree is preferred.
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant work experience.

Bonus Points

  • You have prior experience in the fields of asset building, personal finance, or community development, with a preference for a specific focus on immigrant communities.
  • You have experience conducting focus groups, interviews, and participatory research.
  • Proficiency in Spanish (both written and spoken) is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

People and project management (40%)

  • Lead regular meetings with MAFs Evaluation team to share updates on projects, key insights, and open questions. Provide feedback and guidance to help data analysts test ideas, identify insights, and develop a deeper understanding of clients realities.
  • Be able to identify insights across different datasets and make clear, actionable suggestions based on those insights.
  • Draft and send updates and charts that share insights with all staff so we as an organization can keep listening to clients and meeting their needs better.
  • Be responsible for analyzing and reporting on reach and readership for insights briefs and other evaluation-related communications. Present insights to the team at cross-team meetings to ensure were using data to drive our approach across the organization.
  • Find and share professional development opportunities to help members of the Evaluation team data analysts strengthen their skills.
  • Help team members move their projects forward whether that means providing feedback on research questions, bringing a fresh perspective, or looping in additional support and expertise from other internal MAF teams.

Research, evaluation, and data analysis (30%)

  • Lead projects that help MAF bring timely and relevant insights about clients lives to a broader audience. Create GAME plans, coordinate project members, manage timelines, and keep projects on track to meet deadlines.
  • Use statistical techniques (calculate descriptive statistics, regression analyses, and other modeling techniques) to interpret and identify trends and insights about the financial lives, strategies, and needs among MAFs clients.
  • Lead large-scale, multi-year program evaluations, including randomized controlled trials.
  • Design, test, and implement client surveys that help the organization better understand, respond to, and advocate on behalf of clients needs and realities.
  • Collect data from secondary sources that helps contextualize the insights MAF gathers in its primary research of clients.

Infrastructure & systems management (15%)

  • Build the Evaluation team infrastructure to create a strong and consistent analytical core for the organization, including hosting trainings to expand the teams knowledge and capacity; identifying clear roles & responsibilities; aligning messaging, and developing policies and procedures.
  • Create templates for insights briefs, blogs, and other communications related to MAFs evaluation work so that were sharing our learnings in a consistent voice.
  • Build data visualization and management tools so all staff have access to research insights and can see learnings in real-time.
  • Keep a pulse on new data software and visualization tools, vetting and advocating for the best tools that we should be using, and provide internal training on new tools.

Writing & communications (15%)

  • Write insights briefs and blogs for a public audience (funders, practitioners, policymakers) that uplift the financial lives of low-income and immigrant communities.
  • Create data visualizations (infographics, charts, diagrams) that present research insights in accessible and compelling ways.
  • Amplify MAFs research by sharing data insights in external events, from MAF-hosted webinars to panels and conferences.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • This is a full-time position with an anticipated salary range of $90,000 to $100,000.
