Position Description | The Girguis lab at Harvard University (https://girguislab.oeb.harvard.edu) invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research position in marine animal microbiomes. This project focuses on studying the microbiomes of a diverse range of animals found throughout the ocean. Broadly speaking, the project aims to further our understanding of how marine gut microbiome diversity reflects food quality and abundance, etc. and how this might influence the animal’s fitness. We are seeking applicants with experience in marine microbiology, especially scientists who have worked with gut microbiomes. Candidates must be self-motivated and organized, with excellent writing and communication skills. Candidates must also be capable of working independently, but it is equally critical that s/he be proactive about contributing to team efforts. Candidates must also have experience in one or more of the following areas and skills: genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, biogeochemistry and/or ecological physiology. The candidate will likely have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues at Florida Atlantic University, the University of South Florida, the University of Rhode Island, Boston University, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
