The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Memphis (www.memphis.edu /biology) in Memphis (TN) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The candidate will develop an innovative and integrative research program in any area of toxicology, including ecotoxicology, that asks mechanistic questions at one or more of these levels: molecular, cellular, organismal and/or ecosystem. Research on any aspect of toxicology and organisms will be considered, including those that have field and laboratory research methodologies. Those individuals who study toxins and their effects on biological processes at any scale are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in general microbiology and have an interest in developing new undergraduate and graduate courses related to their research, based on departmental needs.

The Department proudly hosts over 30 exceptionally collaborative and collegial faculty members engaged in interdisciplinary research (see: https://www.memphis.edu/biology /people/) who train Ph.D. and M.S. students. Research is facilitated by university research centers and facilities such as the Center for Biodiversity, Data Science Research Cluster, High-Performance Computing Facility, Integrated Microscopy Center, Animal Care Facility, the Meeman Biological Station, and the FedEx Institute of Technology.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution. We seek candidates with postdoctoral training or equivalent experience, a record of peer-reviewed publication and scholarly accomplishments commensurate with experience, and evidence of funding potential. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally funded research program that advances their field of study while training graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate students. In addition to teaching general microbiology, teaching assignments will depend on the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. Faculty members are also expected to engage in service activities at the department, college, and university levels. Competitive salary and startup funds will be offered.
