Job Summary
The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and Professor Yury Gogotsi (http://nano.materials.drexel.edu) are seeking a post-doctoral associate to work on a research project on synthesis of MAX phases to be used as MXene precursors.
Candidates must have a PhD in materials science, ceramic science, metallurgy, or a closely related field.
This position requires a strong experimentalist with demonstrated experience in ceramic/carbon/carbide materials synthesis and sintering. The selected candidate should have a background in material sciences. Applicants must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. This appointment is offered for one year.
Essential Functions
- The research will involve synthesis layered transition metal carbides and nitrides (MAX phases). Other duties include but not limited to writing reports and managing the research project
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate students
- Presentations at national/international meetings and publication of scientific results in high profile peer-reviewed journals are expected
- Self-starter, able to work independently
- Participate creatively in refining program directions
- The candidate must have good oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues
Required Qualifications
- PhD in materials science, ceramic science, metallurgy, or a closely related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience
