Overview:

LLS’s Equity in Access Research Program (the “Program”) is a health services research funding program designed to generate evidence that will guide changes in healthcare policy and practice to ensure that all blood cancer patients and survivors have equitable access to cancer care and services. The Program Manager will play a key role in expanding this new Program and ensuring that it is implemented effectively. Primary responsibilities include managing the grant review process throughout the review cycle; implementing the award process and tracking grantee progress; corresponding with grant applicants and awardees; contributing to the creation and dissemination of new Requests for Proposals; and assisting in the development of presentations and reports for internal and external audiences to communicate the Program’s progress and outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the entire Program grant review process, from the receipt of Letters of Intent (LOI), the LOI internal review process, and documentation of LOI scores, to the full proposal peer review process, including corresponding with potential and confirmed grant reviewers, maintaining a database of reviewers, tracking reviews (qualitative feedback and scores), corresponding with review meeting chairs, generating summary of reviews for the unfunded applicants, and gathering information needed for Board approval of highly ranked grants.
  • Help to identify appropriate expert reviewers for full proposals, based on information in the LOIs.
  • Respond to questions from potential grantees (PhDs, MDs, etc.) about the Program and specific RFPs.
  • Track and report on types of grant submissions and applicants, and on accomplishments of funded grantees based on their progress reports; follow up with grantees to ensure that grant recipients provide timely and complete progress reports and to obtain additional information as needed.
  • Prepare letters of commitment for grantees, finalize grant agreements, and address questions and concerns of grant recipients’ institutions.
  • Compile a range of Program information to develop reports and presentations for internal and external audiences that capture program success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work with LLS colleagues to ensure that funded grants are available through the “project-finder” tool on the LLS website and the grants are catalogued properly.
  • Conduct literature searches on relevant health services research topics and factors that contribute to inequitable access to care for blood cancer patients and survivors to aid Request for Proposal (RFP) development.
  • Contribute to the conceptual development of new RFPs and other programmatic documents and presentations.
  • Work with Program leadership and colleagues internally and externally to ensure broad dissemination of and good response to Program RFPs as well dissemination of information about grants funded; this includes developing dissemination timelines and collaborating with colleagues in LLS marketing and communications to develop and review ad and social media copy.
  • Maintain information about the funding opportunities of private foundations and federal agencies that support equity-focused health services research within the cancer space.
  • Assist Program leadership in convening panels of Program grantees to share knowledge learned through the research funded by the Program and its implications for policy; work with LLS colleagues to draw interest from media, academics, and policymakers in these panels as relevant.
  • Represent LLS at conferences, symposia, etc. as requested to develop relationships, enhance expertise, and to showcase LLS’s leadership in this space.
  • Assist with other Program, departmental and cross-departmental projects as requested.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in a relevant discipline, such as public health, health policy, sociology, political science, or anthropology
  • At least two years of relevant work experience, including project management experience; experience working in the area of grantmaking preferred.

  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
