The Department of Medicine - Division of Endocrinology is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate that will support investigations that focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern growth and survival of islet b- cells. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Investigate the molecular and cellular biology of how insulin producing cells grow and die and how they adapt to diabetogenic conditions.

  • Islet culture and maintenance, mouse colony maintenance, dissection and physiological experiments with rodents.

  • Set-up instruments, material, apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific assays. %

  • Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests.

  • Designing, performing, and analyzing experiments in collaboration with Dr. Ernest Bernal-Mizrachi.

  • Reviewing relevant scientific literature; preparing written reports of experimental results and keeping detailed laboratory books.

  • Record and document the collected data and perform analyses by employing provided analytical tools. Prepare manuscripts for publication.

  • Contribute to decisions on experimental approaches, data analysis strategies and publication strategies.

  • Weekly implementation of projections, in consultation with Dr. Ernest Bernal-Mizrachi

  • Assist in solving problems related to equipment and data analysis.

  • Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.

  • Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

  • Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

MD or Ph.D. in relevant field

Experience:

  • One (1) year of relevant work related experience with evidence of tangible contributions to the dissemination of new research information is preferred.

  • Experience in noninvasive in vivo imaging is highly desired.

  • Strong scientific background in molecular and cell biology and demonstrated scientific problem solving ability and creativity, preferred.

  • Experience using animal models and in vitro experiments., preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Strong scientific background in cell biology and diabetes.

  • Have demonstrated scientific problem-solving ability and creativity.

  • Excellent communication skills and publication records.

  • Able to work in a highly collaborative manner.

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
