The University of Surrey Clinical Psychology Doctorate is pleased to advertise openings for Associate Tutors (Clinical) to join the programme team. This is an exciting time to join the Clinical Psychology Training Programme, with the expansion in training places providing opportunities to develop new ways of providing high quality training. Associate Tutors (Clinical) play a crucial part in contributing to the PsychD Clinical Psychology Training Programme, monitoring the clinical and professional development of a small group of trainees across their three years on the programme. This includes completing bi-annual placement meetings with placement supervisors and trainees to monitor competency-development. End of programme meetings are also held twice a year with the trainees. Associate Tutors are expected to provide regular feedback to the programme team and are required to attend meetings with the programme team at least twice a year. Please note that for the academic year 2022-2023 there may be a hybrid approach, with the majority of meetings held remotely but the possibility of some face-to-face meetings.

This is an excellent opportunity for personal and professional development. Training is provided in the first year in post, and a range of CPD opportunities will be available. The role will specifically involve supporting a group of six trainees during their time on the programme. For the first year in this role this will require approximately 95 hours, dropping to approximately 86 hours for the remaining time in the role (this may vary depending on whether meetings will be held face-to-face in the future). There may be the possibility to support a smaller number of trainees, with a lower number of hours, if preferred.

The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, but it is anticipated that successful applicants will be available for at least three years to follow a cohort of trainees through the programme.

Applications are welcome from Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, with a minimum of two years post-qualification experience across a broad range of areas, including clinical or consultative work within the NHS, third sector or social care organisations, or clinically-related research or policy roles. Applicants will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an interest in supporting the development of Trainee Clinical Psychologists. Experience of supervising trainee clinical psychologists will be an advantage. A flexible approach to working will be required.

The PsychD Programme in Clinical Psychology is based in the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey which has an outstanding reputation for applied psychology professional training and research.
