Job Purpose – What You Will Do
The Evaluation Manager is responsible for managing the design and implementation of effective evaluation and needs assessment activities across the organization. This position will be especially focused on community-engaged work and will be expected to design and collect data in partnership with community agencies and school districts. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter who is interested in program evaluation, analysis, and data systems in a mission-driven organization. They will have experience working with community leaders and understand the intersectional challenges that BIPOC and rural communities face.
They will be a systems-level thinker with the ability to initiate program evaluation inquiries, critically analyze data, assess outcomes, and provide recommendations to management to improve programmatic delivery and effectiveness. The position also requires exceptional interpersonal skills to work with, train, and support staff in data collection and entry and to support and advise senior management with strategic initiatives. They will have strong analytical, project management, reporting, and communications skills.
Core Responsibilities
Planning
  • Participate in and provide support to project design activities, including the development of project theories of change, logic models, and conceptual frameworks.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation plans, inclusive of engaging stakeholders in the evaluation planning.
  • Establish performance metrics and impact indicators that align with Healthier Generation’s Strategic Framework.
  • Provide support to fundraising and program staff for proposal development, including monitoring, evaluation, and community engagement components
  • Develop effective communication frameworks to share evaluation plans and findings with internal and external stakeholders.
Analysis and Reporting
  • Clean, sort, categorize and organize data.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Summarize findings.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Disseminate evaluation findings and project results to funders, internal staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Create custom reports and presentations accompanied by strong data visualization and storytelling.
Internal Learning and Field Contribution
  • Contribute to institutional learning processes.
  • Track best practices in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Conduct literature reviews and other research as needed to support program and evaluation development and contribute to the field of children’s health.
  • Collaborate with academic and other researchers in writing publications and supporting Healthier Generation as a thought leader in the field of child health.
Day-to-Day Monitoring and Evaluation Activities
  • Develop data collection plans and monitoring systems.
  • Design program monitoring and data collection tools.
  • Monitor project activities, outputs, and progress towards anticipated goals.
  • Work with data platforms, databases, and select technologies to capture and organize data.
  • Train internal and external staff in monitoring and evaluation processes and provide ongoing support and assistance.
  • Conduct or provide support to data quality audits.
  • Manage third-party evaluators and contracts that support the evaluation of Healthier Generation initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and experience requirements for this role:
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated work experience in research or evaluation including developing evaluation plans; overseeing and conducting data collection and analyses; ensuring data quality; and using evaluation results to inform programmatic decisions and demonstrate programmatic impact.
  • At least 2 years of experience working collaboratively with communities (especially youth, rural, BIPOC, or other systematically marginalized communities in a programmatic capacity.
  • Experience working directly with community partners to plan, design, and collect data.
  • Experience with program evaluation and data management in a non-profit or community setting
  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Evaluation, Epidemiology, a related field, or equivalent experience.

Each job at Healthier Generation is assigned to a salary grade built on market data. For an individual coming into Healthier Generation, we set pay generally between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary grade and based on qualifications. For this position, the minimum is $68,642 and the midpoint is $82,370.
