The Program Coordinator, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Thayer School of Engineering works in partnership with the Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion to help fulfill Thayer’s commitment to building a supportive and inclusive community where diverse students, faculty, and staff are supported in their professional, social, and intellectual goals and pursuits.

Key Accountabilities
Description
Project Management and Administration
  • Assists the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and the DEI Working Groups through meeting scheduling, agenda setting, meeting participation, note taking, and meeting follow up.
  • Participates in campus-wide DEI efforts as time allows, representing Thayer School as appropriate.
  • Supports the strategic planning process for Thayer’s DEI office. Serves as project manager during the initial planning and review phases, and works with the Associate Dean to identify, develop, and implement new initiatives from the strategic plan.
  • Tracks the progress of DEI programs and projects, and serves as a primary point of contact on designated projects and activities.
  • Oversees the work of student employees in the Thayer DEI office. Reviews timesheets, monitors hours, and tracks student project progress.
  • Collects data and prepares reports for DEI-related items. May present to various constituencies within Thayer School and/or Dartmouth.
  • Prepares and finalizes the annual report, reviewing strengths and opportunities to guide further action.
  • Tracks and manages program expenses to ensure adherence to Thayer DEI budget. Partners with the Associate Dean in spending decisions.

Description
Communication, Event Planning, and Promotion
  • Implements and oversees “Humans of Thayer” Instagram account by identifying, writing, and refining stories.
  • Assists with the development and organization of DEI-related events.
  • Works with others to develop, implement, and update a Thayer DEI tracking system. Partners with appropriate offices to ensure information is up to date, well-communicated, and monitored for any action items.
  • Partners with offices across Thayer to design, manage, and deliver training, personal and professional development, and other programs and events for the Thayer community.
  • Supports the Thayer DEI Committee through meeting scheduling, preparation of materials, and tracking action items.

Description
Community Building and Student Support
  • Communicates regularly with students, including meeting with individual students and attending student group meetings.
  • Supervises student employees in the DEI Office at Thayer: oversees time-limited and ongoing project work, including but not limited to “Humans of Thayer” Instagram account; community-building activities for student cohorts (for example, first-year graduate and international students); enhancements to mentoring efforts; and supporting the student voice in working with Thayer Administration, faculty, and staff.
  • In partnership with faculty, supports group dynamics in project-based courses as requested, for example by assisting with team contracts, defining a good working relationship, facilitating conflict resolution, or identifying in-group bias.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a framework for creating community amongst graduate students, with a particular emphasis on first-year graduate and international students.
  • Partners with student groups and administrators to enhance existing mentoring efforts (activities could include helping with matching process, event planning with an emphasis on relationship building and training, review of best practices and MentorNet, troubleshooting, etc.).
  • Acts as a voice of the students to the Thayer Administration; helps to bridge the gap between Thayer students and Thayer faculty and staff.
  • Consults on strategies and tactics to improve student communications.
  • Partners with offices across Thayer School to implement services/resources/etc. as identified within DEI strategic planning and the DEI Committee at Thayer.
