- Description
- This research will seek to advance our understanding of the resiliency of forest communities to external perturbations caused by global change. We will investigate the legacy effects of historical wind and insect disturbance over centuries-long time scales on contemporary forest functions, such as carbon storage and provision of habitat for biodiversity. A quantification of these relationships will provide baseline information for assessing system stability. This project will be the first to reconstruct and compare temporal trends in biomass and levels of biodiversity in primary vs. managed forests in central and eastern Europe. The postdoc will have access to datasets for multiple taxonomic groups collected from an extensive network of permanent forest monitoring plots (~10,000 trees at ~500 sites) distributed across multiple countries. Duties: 1. Analyze existing datasets and generate publication quality manuscripts. 2. Collaborate with lab members on related projects. 3. Mentor graduate students conducting independent research.
- Qualifications
- 1. PhD in ecology, forestry, environmental sciences, or related field. 2. Ability to independently design and conduct reproducible research. 3. Strong analytical and coding skills. 4. Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written. 5. Experience working with large datasets for multiple taxa (plants, birds, fungi, saproxylic beetles, lichens). To apply: Please send CV, cover letter and contact information for two references to Dr. Martin Mikoláš (mikolasm@fld.czu.cz) and Tom Knir (knir@fld.czu.cz). Start date is negotiable.
