It is the intent of the basic job requirements, duties, and responsibilities that these minimum requirements should therefore, be referred to as a guide for, rather than a limitation to the services required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position will report to the Director of Student Financial Aid for job responsibilities and other College related activities as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual. Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for reviewing student financial aid applications and preparing student files for approval of federal and state financial aid resources to eligible students in accordance with all federal and state rules and regulations;
  • Advise prospective students, continuing students, and parents regarding financial aid application procedures, eligibility requirements, college policies, and availability of federal and state financial aid;
  • Understand and explain the different types of financial aid and the eligibility requirements;
  • Review distribution of all assigned downloaded ISIR’s (Institutional Student Information Records) received from the US Dept. of Education on a daily basis. Review files selected for Verification. Record documents requested and received in the campus database. Generate and send letter to each student informing them of the documents received and required and any aid awarded;
  • Assist in awarding endowed and third party scholarships, exemption waivers, dual credit awards, and other federal and state grants;
  • Determine eligibility of federal and state work-study applicants. Award work-study funds to students hired into positions;
  • Monitor and reconcile fund expenditures for all federal, state and institutional financial aid and scholarship programs on an ongoing basis;
  • Resolve conflicting data, verify accuracy of information submitted, and maintain a detailed audit trail;
  • Exercise professional judgment in special circumstances when the student aid application may not accurately reflect a family’s current situation;
  • Assist in presenting financial aid seminars and workshops to students, prospective students, parents, and the community;
  • Maintain office policies, procedures, and process workflow. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and documents;
  • Participate in local and regional trainings, and maintain current knowledge of legislative changes and trends in the effective administration of financial aid;
  • Provide appropriate customer service to students, staff, and other visitors to the college. Coordinate with other offices on campus to facilitate student services; and
  • Participate in the Financial Aid Appeal Process by using professional judgment.

CONTRACT & SALARY:

$15.00 per hour, in addition to excellent employee benefits. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be verified for the successful candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • One (1) year customer service experience in a business or educational setting.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written skills.
  • Public speaking skills and experience delivering presentations to large and small groups as well as to individuals.
