| Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a motivated Per Diem Staff Nurse at Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, located in Yardville, NJ. Utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned. Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems. Among the key duties of this position are the following: * Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate- patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system. * Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships. * Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients. * Attends appropriate in-services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills. * Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for the nursing personnel of the health care unit and assumes responsibility for his/her continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional growth of co-workers. |

Qualifications

| Physical Demands and Work Environment | PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Computer literacy, typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments, ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting is required, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities, frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls, intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, manual dexterity and mobility for charting, lifting of up to 50 pounds, hearing and sight are essential, ability to speak clearly is required, may be required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions. |
