You will build on our success for student satisfaction, as well as our strong links with employers and professional bodies such as Association of Corporate Treasurers, the Chartered Bankers Institute and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. With industry and teaching experience, you will have developed and delivered undergraduate, postgraduate and/or professional finance at module or programme level. You will be joining a small diverse team focused on delivering excellent student experience through research-informed teaching.

For this role, we are particularly seeking applicants, who can teach Financial Derivatives; Investment and Portfolio Management; Financial Management; Advanced Financial Management; Financial Planning at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Developing own teaching materials and ensuring that module design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University.
  • As module leader or programme leader, co-ordinate with others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met.
  • Leading/teaching modules as a member of the Finance team in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures.
  • Supervising student projects and the academic elements of field trips, and, where appropriate, placements.
  • Responsible for pastoral care of students within a specified area.
  • Ensuring the efficient delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures.
  • Setting and marking of assessments and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Seeking ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • Conducting high quality research leading to publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings, and to develop bids and partnerships for research funding.
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects or build relationships for future activities.
  • Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, examinations, assessment of progress and student attendance.

Skills and Experience

We would expect the post holder to have the following knowledge and skills:

Essential Skills

  • Hold a PhD in Finance or possess a publications pipeline whilst registered on a doctorate.
  • Teaching qualification or preparedness to work towards.
  • Sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support.
  • Knowledge of higher education and ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.
  • The potential to produce, both individually and collaboratively, REF outputs
  • In-depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
  • Applicants have demonstrated sound pastoral, teaching and module leadership in higher education, enabling students to apply theory into practice.
  • Excellent team working and communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate independent and self-managing working styles.

Desirable Skills

  • Have a record of research and research publications
  • Ability to attract research funding and partnering across their areas of practice
  • Display a thirst for knowledge and academic learning in the context of real world challenges and a strong desire to see their theoretical work in solving impactful problems
