Job Summary

The Center for the Advancing the Scholarship of Transforming Learning (CASTLE) and the Inclusive Excellence initiative at Rochester Institute of Technology are seeking applicants for a Program Manager to begin August 15, 2022. This is a unique opportunity for the applicant to build on existing interest in inclusion while developing key skills in program management. 

The Program Manager will organize all aspects of faculty cohorts (e.g. inclusive research mentoring, inclusive classroom practices), coordinate community-building activities centered around inclusion, direct the administration of the IE program, and teaching related to the promotion of inclusion in the College. 


Job Responsibilities

The College of Science Dean's Office and the Inclusive Excellence initiative at Rochester Institute of Technology are seeking applicants for a Program Manager to begin on August 15, 2022.  This is a unique opportunity for the applicant to build on existing interest in inclusion while developing key skills in program management.

Organize all aspects of faculty cohorts (e.g. inclusive research mentoring, inclusive classroom practices), including:

  • Develop and refine curricular materials
  • Recruit faculty into the cohorts
  • Lead regular faculty discussions and reflections
  • Recruit a diverse pool of undergraduate students for summer research with mentors and match students with faculty mentors
  • Support undergraduate research students and faculty over the summer with activities and events to promote community and address their needs
  • Advise faculty on how to best implement inclusive practices into STEM classrooms

Coordinate community-building activities centered on inclusion, including:

  • Develop and deliver monthly seminars or other activities for the College of Science faculty, staff, and students
  • Recruit faculty, staff and student participants for activities and events
  • Serve on Dean’s Advisory Council on Building an Inclusive Community to facilitate actions within academic units
  • Assist in coordination of any Playback Theatre or theater-based events that support College culture of inclusion
  • Reach out to and support COS student/faculty/staff groups (e.g. COS-AALANA, COSQ+, WISe)

Administration of the IE program, including:

  • Interface with IE, CASTLE, Dean’s Office, Division of Diversity and Inclusion, and Advance staff to coordinate their support of IE activities.
  • Hold regular meetings with leadership within the College of Science and foster collaborations beyond COS.
  • Work with program directors on strategic issues, including:
    • Generate reports for RIT and funding agency review
    • Oversee budget, projections, and forecasts
    • Develop sustainability plans for the program once HHMI funding ends

Teaching

Teach courses that contribute to College culture of inclusion (e.g. “Metacognitive Approaches to Scientific Inquiry”).


Required Qualifications

  • M.S. in a STEM or STEM Education area is required; a Ph.D. in a STEM or STEM Education area is preferred; a degree in physics, biology, or chemistry is preferred, as is a familiarity with the literature and practice of faculty development and institutional change
  • Dedication to and demonstrated experience with diversity and inclusion initiatives is essential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to work independently, flexibly, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Independent judgment, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to coordinate a variety of activities will also be needed

  • Summer Math Applications in Science with Hands-On (SMASH) Experience: designed to increase the engagement of middle-school girls in STEM
  • RIT Learning Assistant (LA) program: geared toward student interaction and engagement in collaborative problem solving
