Job Summary:

The Molecular and Environmental Toxicology (MET) Training Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison comprises over 60 faculty trainers and approximately 30 students in certificate, Master's (MS) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree tracks. We also support a community of undergraduate researchers and postdoctoral scholars in cooperation with the School of Medicine and Public Health. The goals are to provide training in toxicology, responsible conduct in research and professional skills.
The Graduate Program Manager assists the MET Director and MET faculty trainers in recruiting trainees, administering the MS. and Ph.D. programs, the summer program in undergraduate research and the NIH T32 training grant which supports graduate and postdoctoral trainees, performs student services including advising, and is responsible for program administration-related tasks.

Responsibilities: Manages the administrative activities of graduate degree program(s) and/or certificate(s). Performs activities which may include: recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, academic advising, monitoring of progress towards the degree, course and/or enrollment management, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, funding, course and/or program assessment, and academic program review. May oversee staff and/or graduate program functions.
  • 10% Serves as the expert resource for applicants, current students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders of an academic program
  • 20% Manages the response, support, and advocacy for graduate students while continuously improving the student experience and overall graduate program
  • 10% Oversees programming, services, and events to promote professional development and academic success
  • 20% Provides comprehensive advising services promoting graduate student success, retention, and degree completion. Advises on programs, graduate education, and university policies, processes, and procedures. Monitors degree progress and assists students in navigating resources and systems throughout the student lifecycle from matriculation to degree completion
  • 10% Manages graduate student funding including, but not limited to, fellowships, scholarships, training grants, or assistantships from department, university, and/or outside sponsors. May prepare and/or submit funding proposals
  • 5% Maintains compliance with graduate program(s), school/college, and university requirements and technology systems related to admissions, assessment, academic degree progress/requirements, and program review. Makes policy and procedure recommendations and/or changes
  • 5% Oversees staff and/or graduate program functions
  • 10% Prepares, monitors, and reconciles fiscal matters, including budgets, procurements, cost transfers, etc.
  • 5% Develops and manages aspects of MET curricular responsibilities, including organization of syllabi, SIS maintenance, and creation of courses
  • 5% Creates and maintains MET website and media

Qualifications:

Required:
- Minimum two years of experience working in higher education administration and/or student services
Preferred:
- Background in student services
- Proficiency with technology, such as Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Google Apps, Box, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams), web content management (e.g., WiscWeb) CourseLeaf (i.e., Lumen) and PeopleSoft (i.e., SIS)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds
- Creative thinking
