About Us

The Stanford School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences (Stanford Earth) will become part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability on September 1, 2022. The school will include two new flagship buildings and have a three-part structure: academic departments that will launch with about 90 existing faculty, including those from the School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences; interdisciplinary institutes to bridge areas of scholarship across the university; and a sustainability accelerator to drive policy and technology solutions. The school will work towards a unifying goal of creating a future in which humans and nature thrive together in concert and in perpetuity. Faculty, students, and staff will pursue this goal through three primary pathways to impact:

  • Advancing knowledge critical to sustaining life on Earth
  • Preparing students as future sustainability leaders through rigorous, engaged education and research

The Department of Earth System Science’s (ESS) goal is to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. ESS includes a large and growing graduate student and postdoc community.

ESS is seeking a student services professional to join our team. The Student Services Officer will report to the Assistant Director of Student Services (ADSS).

Your Responsibilities may include*:

  • Assist ADSS with orientation and graduate admissions
  • Process visas
  • Responsible for course scheduling, Stanford Bulletin entries, room scheduling, and other logistics related to academic operation
  • Work closely with ADSS on all aspects of the postdoctoral scholar appointments
  • May provide oversight with the administration of ?nancial processes such as ?nancial reimbursements, data entry, purchasing, and following up and resolving issues.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

In addition, our preferred requirements include:

  • Knowledge of Stanford University systems and policies
  • Experience working with Google Drive/docs

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
