Grade:  T26

The Associate Scientist at the Lewis Katz’s School of Medicine’s Shriners Pediatric Research Center participates in investigating the mechanisms of pathogenesis and novel approaches for prenatal diagnosis, and treatment of myelomeningocele (MMC), a congenital spinal cord defect. For these studies, we utilize a retinoic acid-induced fetal rat model of MMC and various cell-based systems.

Responsibilities include: conduct laboratory experiments, animal studies, data collection and analysis, present research progress at scientific meetings, participate in preparation of scientific manuscripts under the direction of a principal investigator. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in neuroscience, molecular biology, or other relevant field and adt least four years of Postdoctoral experience. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Experience in neuroscience, molecular biology, histology and in studies of animal models of central nervous system pathologies, preferably models of central nervous system developmental defects and animal surgery
*Experience in molecular cloning, single-cell RNA sequencing, primary neural cell cultures
*Excellent organizational and time management skills
*Ability to work with and conduct studies on lab animals
*Familiarity with manuscript writing
