Summary

The Warden Lab in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at Cornell University seeks candidates for a fully funded research associate position to study the role of hypothalamic and basal ganglia inputs to the lateral habenula in regulating goal-directed behavior. The broad goal of our research program is to understand the neural basis of positively- and negatively motivated behavioral decision-making, and recent work has focused on dopamine, serotonin, and habenular circuits. We utilize an array of techniques to study these circuits including optogenetics, imaging, high-density freely moving neurophysiology, rodent behavior, and computation. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Scientific work (80%):

  • Design and conduct experiments using optogenetics, imaging, electrophysiology, anatomical, and rodent behavioral tools.

  • Analyze data; create figures/illustrations to graphically explain data.

  • Write papers and report on original research.

  • Supervise technicians, graduate and undergraduate researchers in the lab (15%).

  • Participate in scientific seminars, meetings, and workshops (5%).

Required Qualifications

A PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology, or related field is required.

Experience in molecular biology, electrophysiology, imaging, and data analysis is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A candidate with an interest in the neural mechanisms underlying motivated behavioral decision-making, and a minimum of 3 years postdoctoral research experience is preferred
