Primary Duties and

The Department of Biology at Belmont University is seeking applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2023.

Candidates are invited to submit applications to join the Biology Department at Belmont University, a collaborative group of ten faculty that serves a diverse population of undergraduate science majors.  Our faculty provide high quality learning experiences in a small class environment and also engage undergraduates in various scientific research experiences.  Job responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate courses in Human Anatomy & Physiology and/or Developmental Biology.  This position will also contribute to introductory biology courses for majors and non-majors and courses within the general education curriculum.  Additional teaching responsibilities may include upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that support and complement current departmental offerings.  Full-time teaching load is 24 hours per academic year.  The successful candidate(s) will develop a robust research program that engages undergraduate students.  Preference will be given to candidates using Zebrafish as a research model, as the department has a fully functional zebrafish facility and a system for embryonic microinjections, though faculty utilizing other research model systems bringing novel areas of research to our department will also be considered.  Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and departmental, college and university service.  Ph.D. or progress toward a terminal degree is required; teaching experience strongly preferred.  As all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is particularly seeking applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this program.  For additional information about the position and to complete the online application, candidates are directed to https://jobs.belmont.edu. Belmont University seeks to attract and retain highly qualified faculty and staff that share the University’s values and will contribute to its mission and vision to be a leader among teaching universities bringing together the best of liberal arts and professional education in a Christ-centered, student-focused university of learning and service.  During the application process, applicants will be asked to attach a response to Belmont University’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Path to 2030 articulating how the candidate’s knowledge, experience, and beliefs have prepared him/her to contribute to the Belmont community. Candidates will also be asked to give a brief statement of teaching philosophy.
