Job Summary

The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is a renowned research and clinical center focusing on neurodegenerative disorders associated with aging. It is the largest division within the UCSF Department of Neurology with a diverse workforce of over 300 employees.

The Executive Analyst serves as a partner to the Director of the MAC, using advanced administrative concepts and organization objectives to resolve complex issues. Manages, plans, administers, and coordinates administrative operations which are significantly complex and broad in scope. The role also performs short- and long-term planning for the function. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The role exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. The role also partners with the center’s six leadership committees; acting a as a primary resource, providing strategic analysis of committee operations and partnership in the development and revision of committee procedures, guidelines,metrics, and strategic priorities.

Department Description

The Department of Neurology is a teaching, research, and clinical care unit within the School of Medicine (SOM). The Department of Neurology is a large, multi-site department, with locations including Mission Bay, Parnassus, Mt. Zion, ZSFG, VAMC and the Gladstone Institutes and is affiliated with the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The department is constructed of 14 administrative divisions with 11 clinical specialties. The department has 250+ faculty and academic employees, 300+ staff positions, and 182 trainees including: residents (50), clinical fellows (47) and postdoctoral scholars (85).

The Department has an annual operating budget in excess of $120M and has consistently been the top recipients of NIH funding across all U.S. Departments of Neurology, in addition to being the #1 or #2 recipient of philanthropic dollars across all departments at UCSF. The department is also ranked #1 nationally by US News and World Reports for its clinical care.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum 5years of experience or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience supporting senior level executives in an administrative capacity
  • At least two years of program development and implementation or project management experience or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
  • Advanced knowledge of commonly used industry standard computer application programs.
  • Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem-solving and customer service.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and/or personnel management.
  • Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
