Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Health Records Clerk for the Juvenile Justice Commission contract with locations in Bordentown and Jamesburg, New Jersey. The Health Records Clerk is responsible and accountable for the maintenance of health records.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all medical records information.
  • Performs all clerical duties related to the assembling and maintaining of medical records, including initiating records for new residents.
  • Maintains accountability for the location of any medical record on file, log in and out all record jackets received or sent out.
  • Maintains all files in established systems with all materials properly arranged and affixed within filing material as received.
  • Directly responsible to pull records and deliver for clinical use; refiles record upon completion of use.
  • Reviews medical records for completeness, assembles records into standard order, and files records in designated areas according to applicable alphabetic and numeric filing systems.
  • Scans materials or copies records, and examines materials for legibility.
  • Pulls records and performs studies as requested by the Administrator of Nursing Services. Compiles statistical data such as admissions, discharges, and types of treatment given.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
* High School graduate or equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience in medical records.
* Familiarity with Problem Oriented Medical Records (SOAP) or similar.
* Clerical experience in relational database processes and Microsoft Office Suite.

Microsoft Windows computers and related software
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments, and extended sitting is required. Ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities, frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls, intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, manual dexterity and mobility for charting, lifting of up to 50 pounds, and hearing and sight are essential. Must have the ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.
Special Conditions
Must be approved by the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) and adhere to all JJC requirements.
