In this role, the successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day activities of the complex clinical research operations of the Division of Nephrology and the Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics (CPMG).

Will work closely with the CPMG Director, Clinical Research Directors, Principal Investigators, Research Associates, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Clinical Research Coordinators to support the development, promotion, direction, and coordination of clinical research studies, including project design, budget, staffing, logistics, and other functions to ensure deliverables are met effectively. The manager will be responsible for liaising with institutional administrative offices and external stakeholders, supporting applications for federal and extramural funding within the Division and across Columbia institutions. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adept in conducting and overseeing research, and have significant program managing experience.


  • Recruit, train, and supervise newly hired clinical research coordinators, and ensure all policies and procedures are being adhered to and implemented.

  • Supervise clinical research coordinators ensuring appropriate coverage for research study visits as well as safety of all study participants.

  • Take an active role in the teaching of rules, policies, procedures and systems to new hire in order to ensure successful navigation of their own research projects.

  • Develop studies Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Coordinate data collection, analysis and develop quality control algorithms.

  • Develop and assist with IRB submissions, and maintains IRB protocols.

  • Oversee and facilitate projects-related meetings, trainings, and other events.

  • Write proposals, plan prospective studies, design protocols and develop EDC software such as RedCAP.

  • Oversee identification, screening and assessment of study participants.

  • Coordinate project activities across multiple sites.

  • Ensure compliance with study requirements/procedures of the research projects and with

    university policies.

  • Utilize the latest evidence-based methods in team collaboration and transdisciplinary research to improve collaborative research.

  • Help establish a cohesive research team through monthly meetings and ongoing training/collaboration/communication for the entire division where all coordinators can come together to share best practices, standard operating procedures and knowledge.

  • Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment and support team morale.

  • Write reports and assist in drafting manuscripts and papers.

  • Assist in developing and monitoring project budgets ensuring efficient and cost effective administration and financial management of research projects in compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.

  • Reconcile expenditures on a monthly basis, and develops and maintains internal financial control system to monitor non-salary expenditures of all clinical trials.

  • Assist the Division Administrator with monitoring compliance including JCAHO, CUMC/NYP, and Environmental Health and Safety requirements.

  • Coordinate CPMG program activities with concerned parties.

  • Oversee administrative aspects of the CMGG Program, develops policies and procedures to guide program operation and provides infrastructure support for fellows and faculty submitting grant applications.

  • Assist in the development of educational programs including CME courses and lecture series.

  • Generate and analyze study progress reports, financial reports, and metrics for a wide audience, both internal and external.

  • Identify goals and objectives and prepare an annual (strategic) plan with the CPMG Director and the Oversight Committee.

  • Together with the informatics team, maintain the center’s website prepares Annual Report.

  • Perform additional related duties as needed or assigned.
