Description

The Nanomaterials Research Group is interested in developing analytical methods to foster improved design of nanoparticle-based therapeutics. The design principles to optimize the stability, targeting, and delivery of drugs using nanoparticles requires a thorough understanding of the roles the NP core (e.g., size, shape, composition, etc.) and surface properties contribute for both targeted delivery and efficacy. To address problems associated with characterization and quantification of the drug load as they relate to efficacy, the ability to measure the distribution of drug states present (free, bound, aggregated, etc.) is a primary objective. Thus, a tiered approach, whose basis is in the ability to characterize the (interfacial) properties of the nanoparticle systems and measure the distribution of different drug forms present in relevant media, will be implemented to progress current understanding of in vivo results.
