Position Details
The Department of Psychology at Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professorship in social psychology. The specific area of research is open, although special consideration will be given to candidates with interests related to social justice, gender, race, violence prevention, health, and/or sustainable living. The candidate will be expected to incorporate undergraduates in their research program, and teach introductory social psychology, a department service course (e.g., introductory psychology, statistics, or research methods), a small seminar for first-year students, and specialized courses in an area of expertise. The typical teaching expectation is two courses per semester. Also welcome are interdisciplinary connections to fields such as communication, ethnic studies, gender studies, political science, cultural studies, and environmental science. The appointment will begin on September 1, 2023.

Wesleyan faculty have a strong commitment to scholarship, undergraduate teaching, and social engagement. The Department currently has 18 full-time faculty members and several visiting faculty and postdoctoral fellows in the areas of social, cultural, cognitive, developmental, and clinical psychology as well as neuroscience. Faculty members also contribute to interdisciplinary programs in Neuroscience and Behavior, Science and Society, Educational Studies, Environmental Studies, and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and participate in a postdoctoral program. In addition, Wesleyan has been home to Social Psychology Network since its founding in 1996.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in psychology or related field in hand by the time of application is required to be hired as an Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of application, but will complete the Ph.D. in psychology or related field within one year of hire.
