Job Summary

The Caltech High-Speed Integrated Circuits (CHIC) group engages in both the theoretical analysis of the problems in photonic and electronic integrated circuits and biomedical devices as well as practical implementations of new systems. The Research Scientist has broad expertise in integrated electronic and photonic circuits and will perform theoretical and experimental work on applications of photonic and electronic integrated systems. Expertise in electronic and photonic integrated circuits with thorough knowledge and background in design, verification, and testing of integrated systems for timing synchronization, metrology, and coherent arrays. The candidate will lead the development of high frequency integrated circuits for these applications.

Essential Job Duties

  • Organizes, plans and conducts experiments to study and investigate metrology and sensing in moving environments and can apply integrated circuit design discipine to electronic and photonics integrated circuits.

  • Investigates, analyzes and interprets numerical simulations or experimental results designed to verify application of designed integrated circuits  solutions.

  • Performs sophisticated data analysis and collaborates with research groups on interpreting results.

  • Develop software tools, infrastructure, graphical interfaces, algorithms and computational models to support the research project.

  • Partners with Principal Investigator with initiating, writing and/or submitting award proposals.

  • Provide guidance to students, postdoctoral scholars and visitors regarding interpretation of research results. 

  • Train other research or technical personnel on advanced techniques and methods.

  • Devises experimental procedures and techniques.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in design and verification of photonic and electronic integrated circuits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Caltech research lab.
  • Experience with advance photonic and electronic measurement equipment.
