Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm


Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.


Additional Department Summary: The Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral position. Available to individuals with research interests in using various groundwater modeling codes with some experience in conducting laboratory experiments.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.

Conducts modeling, laboratory, and/or field research in the general area of groundwater hydrology under the supervision of Dr. Prabhakar Clement. Evaluates and develops next-generation models and field methods for computing recharge fluxes. Produces novel scientific insights regarding large-scale hydrologic responses, such as saltwater intrusion, in response to changes in recharge processes.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in in Civil or Environmental Engineering, hydrology, ecology, geosciences, computer science, applied mathematics, data analytics, or related fields by the start date.

Candidates will need to have completed all their Ph.D. requirements by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Ability to develop simulation codes and using existing codes to conducting data analysis. Superlative ability to articulate research objectives and hypotheses, and ability to work as part of a team. Excellent analytical ability.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with numerical modeling and some experience in conducting laboratory studies. In-depth experience with one or more (1+) programming languages. Experience in using computer modeling tools such as MODFLOW 6.
