Position Summary

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences is seeking a Technician B position responsible for conducting experiments to study neurotoxicity in the context of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Experimental models will include C. elegans, immortalized cell culture, and transgenic mouse models to study how various environmental contaminants alter pathogenic pathways in PD and AD.   The laboratory uses a wide range of techniques including western blots, immunocytochemistry, mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, microscopy, uptake and binding experiments, and behavioral characterization. The position will be supervised by the laboratory manager and help support the research of postdoctoral fellows. We anticipate that this position will be primarily focused on C. elegans and cell culture, but the incumbent may assist with the maintenance of mouse colonies. The incumbent will also help with ordering, general laboratory maintenance, and related duties necessary to the functioning of the research project.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out fully planned experiments to study neurotoxicity associated with PD and AD (40%)
  • Maintenance of C. elegans and cell culture lines (20%)
  • Preparing solutions, labeling, aliquoting and performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the research project (10%)
  • Keeping records of experiment results (10%)
  • Assisting in the management of laboratory equipment and supplies (10%)
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested” (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
