Job Summary

The Department of Sociology at Purdue University (https://www.cla.purdue.edu/academic/sociology/ ) invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship to support the development of early-career scholars from diverse backgrounds with particular attention to historically underrepresented groups on the professorial faculties of colleges and universities in the United States.  This year we seek applications from scholars who show promise in the areas of:

(1) Life Course Origins of Health Disparities in Later Life.  We seek a scholar with strong quantitative skills for analyzing longitudinal data on health (e.g., growth curve modeling, survival analysis).  Sponsors: Ken Ferraro and Patricia Thomas.

(2) Socioeconomic and Racial/Ethnic Disparities in the Effects of Drug Policy.  We seek a scholar with quantitative and/or qualitative methods skills with an interest in how the implementation of public policies related to psychoactive substances may produce differential outcomes in drug use and related health outcomes.  Sponsor: Brian Kelly

Applicants will be encouraged to pursue their own research agenda during the fellowship for a portion of their time as well as work closely on research with a mentor.  In addition to an annual salary of $54,000, the fellowship provides office space and computer equipment.  Formal screening will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  Anticipated start date is fall 2021 or January 2022, however a late start date can be considered.  Inquiries may be directed to Prof. Linda Renzulli, Chair of the Postdoctoral Search Committee; email: lrenzulli@purdue.edu.

Education

Prior to the start of the Fellowship, applicants must have completed the PhD in sociology or a closely related field such as demography, human development, sociomedical sciences, or public health.
