In Vitro Disease Modeling in Toxicology

Job Description

A postdoctoral position is available in the Mechanistic Toxicology Branch (MTB) of the Division of National Toxicology Program (DNTP) at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The goal of this project is to investigate the role of environmental chemical exposures on the onset or exacerbation of the severity or progression of cardiovascular diseases. Likewise, pre-existing disease states that represent a significant risk factor for environmental exposures will be studied. Human relevant new approach methodologies (NAMs) will be used to model fundamental elements of common cardiovascular and metabolic diseases to determine how environmental exposures modify those conditions with an aim to understand how they might exacerbate clinical disease. This project will develop novel approaches to hazard assessment that directly support our Health Effects Innovation (HEI) programs at the DNTP. The candidate will have an opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists gaining broad perspective on traditional hazard assessment and contributing to novel approaches in predictive toxicological assessment. DNTP has state-of-the-art laboratory and toxicology testing facilities. The postdoctoral fellow will be co-mentored by Drs. Sreenivasa Ramaiahgari and Brian Berridge.

Applicants must have an advanced degree (Ph.D., DVM, MD) and within 5 years of obtaining degree at the start of fellowship. The DNTP postdoctoral training program funds post-doctoral fellowships for three years. Stipends are commensurate to experience. Postdoctoral fellows are considered as professionals-in-training and are not classified as NIH employees. Medical insurance is provided. Details on NIH post-doctoral fellowships can be found at: https://www.training.nih.gov/programs/postdoc_irp .

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge in cardiovascular biology.
  • Experience with basic cell culture (iPSC technology desirable) and molecular biology.
  • Experience with next generation in vitro models (Organoid/microphysiological systems), high-content imaging systems is preferred.
  • Data analysis and excellent record documentation.
  • Team player with good oral communication and writing skills.

To Apply:

Interested candidates should send a single PDF containing a cover letter indicating experience and research interests, CV and the contact information of three references to Dr. Sreenivasa Ramaiahgari via email at sreenivasa.ramaiahgari@nih.gov with the subject line: Postdoc Fellow Application - First and Last name of the applicant
