Job Description

Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Corrosion Science: Compositional and Chemical Short-Range Order Effects on the Aqueous Passivation of FCC and BCC Binary Alloys.

The Sieradzki research group has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to examine compositional and chemical short-range order effects on the aqueous passivation of FCC and BCC binary alloys. This research project is focused on developing an understanding of the atomic-scale factors that control the evolution of self-healing passive films. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team with researchers at Northwestern University who will be performing first-principles calculations that mirror our experimental work. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent PhD to learn and contribute to various aspects corrosion science and material behaviors in extreme environments.

Qualifications Required:

• A PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Physics within the last 5 years.

• Proven communication and interpersonal skills as evidenced by a record of publication in peer-reviewed

journals and external presentations at scientific conferences.

Well-developed skills in one or more of the following areas are desired:

• Analytical electrochemistry with an emphasis on potentiostatic step/sweep methods, controlled current techniques, methods involving forced convection and a detailed knowledge of electrochemical instrumentation.

• Inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy or atomic emission spectroscopy.

• EXAFS characterization of short-range order at synchrotron radiation light sources.

• UHV surface science characterization techniques such as low energy ion-scattering, scanning probe microscopy and angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, benefits-eligible, year-to-year appointment. Renewal is possible on an annual basis contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Interested candidates are asked to submit the following to karl.sieradzki@asu.edu : Curriculum vitae; Letter summarizing your interest in the position, experience and career plans; Information for three references (name, title, organization, email address, phone number).
