Position Title: | Postdoctoral Fellow - Computational Chemistry |
Position Type: | Faculty |
Location: | Villanova, PA |
Recruitment Type: | Internal/External Applicants |
Work Schedule: | full-time/12-months |
Department: | 184-Chemistry |
Position Summary: | The Department of Chemistry at Villanova University and Dr. Ryan Jorn invite applications for a postdoctoral research position in computational chemistry with responsibilities in method development simulating electron and ion transport at electrode interfaces. The position is renewable and also comes with opportunities, but no obligations, for teaching experiences in a primarily undergraduate setting. As such, responsibilities are divided between research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the oversight of an undergraduate- and masters-level research group funded by NSF, with research focusing on the development of theory and simulations to describe electron/ion transfer in lithium-ion batteries. Hence, lithium-based electrolytes and electrode materials will provide the point of application for the methods developed. Opportunities to pursue independent research interests will also be provided. Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian order. Diversity and inclusion have been and will continue to be an integral component of Villanova University’s mission. The University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and seeks candidates who understand, respect and can contribute to the University’s mission and values. |
Duties and Responsibilities: | The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the development of software to: 1) perform replica exchange molecular dynamics, 2) implement a unique force field approach to describing electron transfer in a liquid environment, and 3) perform force-field optimization. The candidate will also be expected to apply these approaches to high performance computing platforms, both internal to the University and external. The candidate will also teach four courses/laboratories per year in physical chemistry and other disciplines, with occasional opportunities at the graduate level. |
Minimum Qualifications: | A Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry or related field; experience in molecular dynamics simulations and high performance computing; proficiency in C or comparable computing language; excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty. |
Preferred Qualifications: | Familiarity with C++ and the LAMMPS molecular dynamics engine are preferred, but not required. |
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: | |
Special Message to Applicants: | Applications must be submitted online at jobs.villanova.edu. The review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. A complete application includes: 1. a cover letter (including the names and contact information for at least 3 references) 2. curriculum vitae 3. statement of teaching philosophy 4. unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts 5. Three letters of recommendation: applications must include contact information for 3 references who will be contacted via email to submit confidential letters of recommendation when the application is submitted. |
