| Position Description | A post-doctoral position in computational biology is available in David McCandlish’s group in the Simons Center for Quantitative Biology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Research in the McCandlish laboratory is focused on the analysis of high-throughput mutagenesis data, with the goal of accurately predicting the phenotypic, health, and evolutionary consequences of both single and multiple mutations in protein coding and regulatory sequences. The successful candidate will develop new statistical and mathematical techniques for modeling the effects of mutations and will conduct analyses on a variety of data sets. Current research directions involve semi-parametric statistics, Markov chains, Gaussian processes, and population-genetic theory. This position is affiliated with the Simons Center for Quantitative Biology (SCQB). |
| Position Requirements | Education: Applicants must hold a PhD in a quantitative discipline such as computational biology, evolutionary biology, molecular evolution, quantitative genetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, or molecular genetics. Individuals with backgrounds in mathematics, physics or computer science will also be considered. Experience/Skills: Ideal candidates from the biological sciences should have proficiency in at least one computational environment for the development of new statistical techniques such as R, Mathematica, Matlab, Julia, Python, C, etc. Ideal candidates from the physical/mathematical sciences should have prior exposure to research in the biological sciences.
