Job Summary

Reporting to an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science, the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is a highly motivated individual with a PhD degree in Rehabilitation Sciences or related field with expertise in human biomechanics with a focus on gait analysis. On location in Drexel University’s Pennsylvania Fabric Discovery Center housed at the Center for Functional Fabrics and in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will work with a transdisciplinary team consisting of, but not limited to, industrial designers, material scientists, computer scientists, biomechanists, engineers, and sociologists. The duties for the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow include gait analysis and other biomechanical laboratory techniques, all aspects of developing and conducting original research studies, programming and data analysis, and iterative development work with a larger team to move projects forward.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in research related to development and testing of exoskin device 50%
  • Conduct human subjects testing in accordance with protocols. 10%
  • Develop grant proposals in collaboration with transdisciplinary team. 5%
  • Contribute to analysis and writing of manuscripts. 5%
  • Contribute to project-related progress presentations and reports. 15%
  • Participate in research meetings. 10%
  • Other duties as needed 5%

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Rehabilitation Services or related field
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Detailed knowledge of human applied biomechanics with a focus on the lower extremity, gait, and locomotion
  • Strong technical laboratory skills and demonstrated ability to collect accurate biomechanical data from human research participants
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to design and implement custom data analysis using common biomechanical and mathematical analysis software.
  • Ability to establish clear priorities and multi-task in a busy environment to meet internal and external deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to and communicate with differing stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to facilitate meetings and make effective presentations
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, both within a project and in developing relationships and collaborations through committees and workgroups
  • Ability, especially under pressure, to be professional, courteous, and tactful

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in three-dimensional laboratory gait analysis data collection and analysis with human research participants
  • Experience with metabolic testing using breath-by-breath analysis
  • Demonstrated ability with MATLAB, Visual3D, Vicon Nexus software
  • Experience with precision wearables for biomechanical data collection in the field
