Job Summary
A Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available in the Hoagland Soil Microbial Ecology Lab (https://proxy.qualtrics.com/proxy/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fag.purdue.edu%2Fdepartment%2Fhla%2Fdirectory.html%23%2Flhoaglan&token=JGPxt35XUBW3NfldGHJ7ZsP8BFqqlEmJAjmuzqIuExc%3D ) in the Dept. of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue University. The candidate will contribute to on-going studies aimed at optimizing biological control strategies for the suppression of critical diseases in organic and low-input tomato and carrot production systems. They will also design and carry out studies that aim to elucidate potential mechanisms mediating beneficial plant-soil-microbial relationships in these systems. Opportunities to further develop the candidates’ skills via workshops, grant writing, helping to mentor students, etc. will be available.
The position is 40 hours per week with a duration of two years, contingent upon successful performance in the first year. Longer-term employment is possible pending additional funding. Education
PhD in Soil Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Agroecology, or a closely related field.
Experience
Must have experience culturing and working with pathogens in controlled studies, and conducting assays to quantify soil properties and plant stress responses. Also, must have experience using molecular tools to quantify microbial populations using qPCR, and characterize whole microbial communities using NGS and/or metagenomic approaches. Knowledge and experience working within local food systems is preferred.
