Salary Range:
$65,000 ~ $82,000 Starting Base Salary ($65,000 ~ $102,500 salary range).
Summary of Purpose:

Assists Associate Directors and Director of Student Financial Resources and Scholarships in the management, processing and awarding of financial assistance and scholarships for all students. Manages day-to-day operations for all State of Michigan Student Aid Programs administered by the Student Financial Resources and Scholarships Department. Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations as it relates to financial aid programs. Assists in the implementation of regulations to avoid institutional liability and with college wide development and administration of financial aid policies, procedures, and programs to maintain continuity, consistency, and compliance. This position reports to the Associate Director of Systems and Operations. The employee is expected to work in a multi-cultural, diverse working environment.

  • Provides leadership, training and supervision over the awarding and processing for all State of Michigan Programs.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations governing federal and state programs
  • Partners with Financial Services to reconcile all state programs.
  • Collaborates with Admissions, Academic Counseling, Registrar, and Marketing to ensure student success for state aid recipients.
  • Approves financial aid eligibility of students by analyzing individual cases and applying financial aid guidelines; uses professional judgment when inconsistencies or discrepancies occur.
  • Provides financial aid counseling and advice to parents and students; assists in determining alternative sources of aid.
  • Performs needs analyses on financial aid applicants; prepares and packages financial aid awards for students to have adequate funds, enabling them to attend OCC.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for state programs and recommend modifications to other policies and procedures.
  • Assists directors in interpreting and analyzing changes in financial aid regulations for future implementation.
  • Develops budgets, awarding policies and procedures, and all other updates required for yearly updates for compliance.
  • Develops and maintains annual Federal Pell Grant Charts.
  • Prepares reports, monitors forms, summaries reports for internal and external offices.
  • Utilizes college wide computer system to maintain financial records; provides financial aid reports, as needed.
  • Serves as initial contact for auditors; conduct periodic self-audit and evaluations
  • Supervises Financial Aid Specialists including the assignment and distribution of duties, training, performance evaluation, and reviewing sick and vacation leave requests.
  • Disseminates financial aid information to interested groups such as OCC students, parents, high school students, outside agencies, and College committees.
  • Provides input regarding financial operating budgets for staffing, supplies, training, etc. levels.
  • Serves on financial aid internal case committee, campus and college wide committees; participates in development of College initiatives; assists in formulation of policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state regulations regarding financial aid
  • Ability to interpret federal and state tax returns
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • Demonstrated ability of a general manager in a professional environment
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles
  • Skills in advising students and parents on financial aid and scholarship programs
  • Skills in oral and written communication
  • Ability to work as a team player in a multi-culturally diverse working environment
Minimum Education and Experience Requirement:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience in financial aid.
