Position Summary
The School of Biological and Population Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time 1.00 FTE, 12-month, fixed term, Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head as appropriate.
This position will perform research, help run clinical trials, manage the physical laboratory and train new students. The position will assist in sample preparation and analysis for other lab researchers (post-doctoral scholars, graduate students). The position will help carry out human subjects research, including coordinating daily clinical research activities, recruiting, screening and scheduling participants, coordinating with clinical staff, helping to collect clinical samples. This position will also help promote efficient laboratory operations by helping to train new students in basic laboratory safety and protocols, develop training protocols (written and video), ordering and maintaining supplies in laboratory, organizing laboratory samples. The position will assist in analysis and interpretation of data and reporting the results of research for publication. The position will also assist in the development of research proposals for contract research.
The Dallas laboratory investigates human and bovine milk proteins, how they are digested in infants and adults, their bioactivities and how they are affected by processing. Our work involves clinical trials, mass spectrometric measurement of proteins, peptides and other compounds, assays of protein/peptide function, and analysis of biomarkers of health.
Position Duties
34% – Laboratory Research:
Conduct research for various research projects in the lab. Prepare and analyze samples, interpret data, co-author manuscripts for publication, and contribute to research proposals for contract research.
33% – Clinical Research Management:
Coordinate clinical research trials. Tasks may include coordinating day-to-day human subjects research, collecting samples at clinical site, creating Institutional Review Board protocol for study, coordinating with the clinical site, recruiting and enrolling subjects, maintaining clear records, communicating with other lab researchers on progress, writing summaries of study progress for funding agencies, and creating written and video protocols for sample collection procedures.
33% – Lab Management:
Contribute to success of daily operations in the laboratory, including training new students and lab members in lab safety and research protocols, assisting in laboratory physical organization, maintaining an updated lab website with research protocols (written and video), ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, and managing/organizing chemical and sample storage and inventories.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or a related field.
-Experience with laboratory research and/or human subjects research.
-Excellent written and organizational skills.
-Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, including flexibility, adaptability and collaborative problem solving.
-Computer related skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, and Internet navigation.
- This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Experience in laboratory management.
Master’s degree in a related field.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Typical office environment, as well as a basic laboratory environment and sometimes a clinical environment. Specific personal protection equipment will be provided and required for specific laboratory and clinical spaces (e.g., gloves, lab coat, eye wear). Incumbent will undergo training for working amidst biological and chemical safety considerations (biohazard, chemical safety).
Work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday, normal business hours, but may require irregular hours in some instances as required for clinical studies.
