JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The laboratory of Melik Demirel in the department of Engineering Science and Mechanics at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral researcher position.  

The Demirel Lab studies fundamental structure-property relationships in protein materials and applies these studies to diverse problems including advanced fibers and textiles, thermal diodes, and photonic devices. This position involves design, implementation, and data analysis for the directed evolution of protein materials and requires the supervision of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students and the co-authoring of grant applications, progress reports, and journal articles.

A successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in polymer science, polymer engineering, materials science, or a related field, with proven independent and collaborative research experience involving protein or polymer materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and publication record in the design or engineering of protein materials with an emphasis on wet-spinning. A complete application includes a cover letter describing research and mentoring experience, a CV, and contact information for at least two professional references.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. This is an appointment starting September 1, 2022 funded for 1 year.
