Description
A postdoctoral associate position is available in the research laboratory of Dr. Kevin A. Kuehn at the University of Southern Mississippi. This position is part of a 4-year collaborative project funded through DARPA-Arcadia (https://www.darpa.mil/news-events/2021-09-14) entitled IMPEDE: Inhibiting Molds with Probiotic Ensembles from Diverse Environments. The University of Southern Mississippi, a Carnegie Research I institution with approximately 14,000 students, is located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with additional campuses located nearby on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This position will be based at the main campus in Hattiesburg. Hattiesburg is the medical, commercial, and cultural center of south Mississippi and is ranked among the top five small metropolitan areas in the United States. The School of Biological, Environmental, and Earth Sciences currently has 22 tenured-tenure track faculty with research strengths in ecology, evolution, molecular biology, and microbiology. Qualifications
The successful applicant is expected to have prior research training in microbial ecology, mycology, or microbiology, and have excellent communication skills. Applicants are expected to have experience in one or more of the previously mentioned fields, including a promising record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants having experience in high-resolution light and fluorescent microscopy and/or hyperspectral imaging, would be considered a plus. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. before starting and must be eligible to work in the United States. Duties of the postdoctoral associate will include research pursuant to the project objectives, peer-reviewed publication of research findings, and working closely with project collaborators from Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The salary is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The anticipated start date is Fall 2022 but is negotiable.
