Job Description
Job Summary
The laboratory of Professor Philip Low at The Institute for Drug Discovery, Purdue University has an immediate opening for several talented and motivated chemists to carry out synthetic organic chemistry as postdoctoral fellows.
The post doctoral fellow will carry out research focused on the design, synthesis, testing and development of novel ligand-targeted drugs for treatment of major human diseases. The candidate will employ both established and new synthetic strategies to prepare the desired small molecules and then test the efficacy of these drug conjugates in both cultured cells and small animals. In cases where the candidate is unfamiliar with the biological methods, he/she will be trained appropriately. Thus, the ideal candidate will be willing to learn new methods and then be able to manage multiple projects in both chemical and biological areas.
Qualifications and Skills
The minimum qualifications and skills for this position are:
- PhD in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry.
- Experience in total synthesis of natural products
- Experience in running biological assays or at least a strong motivation to learn these assays
- Strong technical abilities in the synthesis of small molecules using conventional and modern organic synthesis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to engage in team-based research and collaborations.
