JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Geography in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar with a focus on immersive experiences, virtual reality, and spatial data science.

The successful candidate will focus on developing new department capacities for immersive environment and virtual reality research, education, and outreach to complement multiple laboratories housed in the Department of Geography as well as the University’s Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS). We seek candidates who have a background in geographic information science research and who have experience teaching about immersive and virtual worlds in geographic information science courses. This position will help spearhead the development of new research infrastructure for the advancement of VR/AR in GIScience and Data Science. Duties will include procurement of equipment, developing training materials for the use of new lab equipment, hosting workshops and outreach events, and leading research projects in consultation with faculty and graduate students to advance GIScience aims across the Department and within ICDS.

Education and Experience:

A Ph.D. in geography is required for this position by the start date of employment. This Postdoctoral Scholar position is funded for one year from the date of hire. Information about the benefits associated with this appointment are located at https://www.research.psu.edu/opa/benefits
