Job Description:

Multiple post-doctoral associate positions are available in the Intelligent Comparative Oncology Lab directed by Dr. Jon Kim in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida (UF). Kim lab focuses on developing novel diagnostic and clinical applications in the field of comparative oncology by utilizing AI and machine learning to improve human and animal health, with a specific focus on early cancer detection and immunotherapy. The research includes implementation of liquid biopsy, iPSC model, CRISPR gene editing and screening, 3D bioprinting model, and multi-omics data analysis. Kim lab also studies to define fundamental molecular mechanisms underlying oncogenesis and cancer progression, particularly for aggressive pediatric cancers such as osteosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. Kim lab has the privilege to establish dog clinical trials at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital, providing translational medical research. Kim lab’s research is multi-disciplinary and collaborative, offering opportunities for career development of post-doc candidates. All lab members can have access to high performance computing resource, HiPerGator supercomputer at the UF (https://www.rc.ufl.edu/about/hipergator/ ).

The positions are well suited for individuals who can work independently with high self-motivation. Post-doctoral associates are expected to develop new research avenues in collaboration with the PI and contribute to existing projects in the lab. At the same time, we aim to train the next generation of scientists as the lab is trainee-centered and surrounded by diverse expertise in the college and across campus including the University of Florida Health Cancer Center.

Expected Salary:

Minimum $53,760; commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • PhD, and/or DVM in Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Immunology or Biochemistry, or closely related life science field
  • Highly organized, determined, and self-motivated scientist
  • Published scientific papers in international journals in the field of cancer
  • Strong background in cancer biology
  • Advanced skills in cellular and molecular biological experiments including gene and molecular cloning and cell culture
  • Experience in mouse work (xenograft and transgenic mice)
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Great team worker: strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience or interest in iPSC culture and modeling, CRISPR editing/screening, and flow cytometry
  • Experience or interest in ATAC-seq and epigenetic assay and analysis
  • Experience or interest in next-generation sequencing analysis and bioinformatics
  • Experience or interest in 3D bioprinting or biomedical engineering
  • Having basic programming skills such as R, Python, and/or Linux is another plus
